About our Venue
Our home for the weekend is a classic country house nestled within 30 acres of private grounds
with forest, fields, its own stone circle and much more.
The house sits high above the town of Mitcheldean, deep in the heart of the Forest of Dean and commands spectacular views over the River Severn to the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills over 20 miles away.
The estate can be traced back at least 2000 years and was originally an Iron Age settlement.
The first house on this land was built in the 16th century with the present house replacing it in 1824. Once a private home the building became a Women's Sanatorium in 1884 before becoming an isolation hospital for children with Diphtheria and Scarlett fever. Finally the building was used as a geriatric hospital until it closed its doors in 1965.
Now known as The Wilderness Centre, the estate offers the opportunity to roam freely throughout private woodlands, fields and hills.

BECOME A MEDIEVAL APOTHECARIST AND MIX YOUR OWN REMEDIES TO TAKE HOME
In the Middle Ages remedies were often produced by Monks, Nuns or 'Wise-Women' of the Forest and with every single known medicine today deriving from nature it's clear to see why Herbalism is still so effective.
During this workshop, set within the Saxon house, you will use herbs and essential oils to create a medieval remedy of your choice!
- 7.00pm -
After your evening meal your evening will begin with a briefing from Jayne on the ghosts of the building, after which we will visit various areas of the property and woods in search of its spirits and paranormal experiences!
Instead of modern day gadgets and devices however, we will be working either in darkness or by candlelight using traditional and lesser known ancient techniques as well as drawing upon our own intuition.
Refreshments available throughout. The evening will close at Midnight.
