Our home for the weekend is a classic country house nestled within 30 acres of private grounds
with forest, fields, its own stone circle and much more.
The house sits high above the town of Mitcheldean, deep in the heart of the Forest of Dean and commands spectacular views over the River Severn to the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills over 20 miles away.
The estate can be traced back at least 2000 years and was originally an Iron Age settlement.
The first house on this land was built in the 16th century with the present house replacing it in 1824. Once a private home the building became a Women's Sanatorium in 1884 before becoming an isolation hospital for children with Diphtheria and Scarlett fever. Finally the building was used as a geriatric hospital until it closed its doors in 1965.
Now known as The Wilderness Centre, the estate offers the opportunity to roam freely throughout private woodlands, fields and hills.

Upon arrival you will check in and have the opportunity to choose your costume for the banquet...and so your journey back in time begins!

Gather in the entrance hall and follow the music into the banqueting room where you will enjoy a sumptuous, authentic candlelit feast with a tankard of ale or goblet of wine...

Campfire Gathering
After your feast, follow the distant sound of drumming and the lantern led path to the fire pit where
Jayne Harris will regale you with tales of the more macabre side of Medieval life and the hauntings of the forest...keep your eyes on the fleeting shadows that pass our circle.
If the mood takes us we may even start a haunting sing song!

Spiritual Alchemy at the Standing Stones
Standing on the site of the former medieval gallows, with the modern world fading into the distance below you, feel the spirit of the place as we close our first evening with a group seance and spiritual awakening under the stars.

After your evening meal your will be briefed on the ghosts of the building, after which you will visit various areas of the property, outbuildings and woods in search of its spirits and paranormal experiences!

Notes
There will be vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available during the banquet provided we are notified of any dietary requirements in advance.
Non-alcoholic drinks are also available during the Medieval Banquet. 1 glass of wine/ale per person included. You are welcome to bring your own beverages however please bear in mind that anyone considered heavily under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted to participate in activities.
NO ALCOHOL before or during the Paranormal Investigation please. This is to ensure the best possible experience for everyone.
All outdoor activities are weather permitting. In the event of poor weather, activities will take place indoors.
As we have private use of the entire estate guests are welcome to remain in the forest or explore after-hours but are responsible for their own safety outside the organised schedule. If returning to the house or tent late please be considerate towards fellow guests and keep noise to a minimum.
Accommodation within the main house is in shared, dorm style rooms. Where possible couples will be allocated smaller private rooms however we cannot guarantee this. Single guests will be asked to share in same sex, larger rooms. Bell Tents are private and you will have a tent exclusively for yourself and those you book with. There are toilet and wash facilities in the Bell Tent village and also in the main house.
INSURANCE
As detailed in our Terms & Conditions below, we always recommend that guests take out private travel insurance to cover any losses should you be unable to attend. All payments are non transferable and non refundable.
