MONKS, MURDER AND MINCE PIES!

Benedictine Priory Infirmary, Leominster

~ Saturday 21st December ~

7pm - MIDNIGHT

(with optional sleepover!)

Although today we are more likely to connect ghost stories and thoughts of a paranormal nature to halloween than any other holiday, traditionally Christmas was a time for ghost stories,  the most famous of these being 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens.

It's no surprise, that as we reach the edge of the year, a time of dark nights and reflection on the past months that thoughts turn to those who have passed. Those for whom Christmas is no more.

In this very special one-off evening, we are inviting a small group of you to join us in a yuletide paranormal investigation of one of the counties oldest and most significant buildings.

A former 11th century monastic infirmary, 16th century town gaol and 18th century workhouse. This place has seen death, suffering, anger, fear and pain for centuries.

in keeping with the spirit of the occasion this will be a back to basics traditional spirit vigil with no electronic or battery operated devices.

We will instead engage in spiritual methods of communication as well as relying on our own senses.

The Priory

The Priory Church is an Anglican parish church in LeominsterHerefordshire, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

The building was constructed for a Benedictine Priory in about the 13th century, although there had been an Anglo-Saxon monastery in Leominster, possibly on the same site during the 11th century.

It was this 11th century Priory which also had an Infirmary. A place where the monks would be taken to be treated and sadly, in a time of primitive cures and superstition it's a place where many passed away.

The Infirmary building survived the dissolution in 1539 and went on to be used as the towns gaol. In 1759 it was turned into a workhouse and 2 additional wings were built to house the growing number of inmates.
