Have we found the road to Atlantis?

February 24, 2017

For decades there have been tales of a lost city, submerged in an inaccessible place, hidden forever and frozen in time. Most of us accept it to be a fable, a legend that while filled with romanticism and awe, has no foundation (if you'll pardon the pun!) in reality.

In recent years however it seems that researchers, geologists, archaeologists, and scientists alike have been debating whether or not we may have actually found the road to the ancient and mythical city, and that road has been nicknamed "the Bimini Road".

Bimini is an island in the Bahamas, part of a chain of islands 50 miles east of Miami, Florida. Just 20 feet down in the blue waters off the coast, a large stone path can be found made up of flat rocks which appear cut at right angles and are seemingly set purposefully in straight lines. This impressive formation stretches for about half a mile and has a a pronounced hook at one end. Some of the stones that make up the road measure 4 metres across.

Experts have been trying to discern whether the blocks that make up the road are a natural phenomenon. Apparently the government believes the strange structure was caused by concentrations of shells and sand. In other words, the whole thing could potentially be created over millions of years by a natural occurring phenomenon of hard shells gathering in straight angles. Of course there are many who believe that the perfectly straight edges and rows in which they are laid could never have happened by accident.

More intriguing, is that this so called 'natural phenomena' does not appear to be present anywhere else in the world...

So are we looking at the walls of the Lost City of Atlantis?
