Established in 1686, at a time when it was illegal to be Catholic, a group of religious sisters, now known as the Congregation of Jesus, opened this secret convent. Today The Bar Convent is the UK's oldest, living convent. A living convent is defined as one with a continuously resident religious community. Sisters have lived on this site in the city of York for over three centuries.

During your time at the Convent you will have the opportunity to explore this beautiful building and spend time within it's secret chapel.

Saturday

After a refreshing nights sleep and tasty full breakfast you will be joined by Historian Simon Entwistle as we board our coach ready to immerse ourselves in Pendles history!

3 Villages Tour

As we travel Simon will bring the story of the Pendle Witches to life, pointing out important sites along the route to our first village, Roughlee. Here we will visit the statue of Alice Nutter, accused of Witchcraft and hanged in August 1612 as a witch.

From Roughlee we travel to Barley, where in recent years the remains of an alleged witches cottage were found complete with cat skeleton buried behind a wall.

After a pub lunch at the historic Pendle Inn the coach will take us to Newchurch village and to St Marys Church where we will visit the infamous 'Witches Grave' of Alice Nutter. Simon will guide us through this part of the Pendle witches history as we stand in the graveyard, overlooking the surrounding countryside. There will be time to visit the world famous Witches Galore Shop to buy some Pendle souvenirs before we re-board the coach to return back to the hotel, passing several more historic sites connected to the Pendle Witches.

Before heading back to the hotel we will visit the notorious Malkin Tower site, the location of Old Demdikes Good Friday meeting during which it's claimed that several witches, having taken skulls and teeth from St Marys Graveyard made clay effergies of those they intended to do harm, amongst other things.

THIS IS A DARK LOCATION WITH A DARK HISTORY

In the shadow of the former tower we will be carrying out paranormal experiments including spirit boards, glass divination, spirit box experiments and more

BE PREPARED FOR THE UNEXPECTED HERE, SOME VERY UNUSUAL ACTIVITY HAS OCCURRED ON THIS SITE.
